Western Renewable Energy Zones

Client: Western Governors’ Association

Role: Facilitator and project coordinator

Western state governors partnered to achieve ambitious regional, clean, and diversified energy goals. With support from the U.S. Department of Energy, the Western Governors’ Association  launched the Western Renewable Energy Zone (WREZ) project to identify where significant renewable energy resources are located and can be developed, while minimizing impacts to wildlife and habitat, and to identify where economic transmission could be built to bring these often remote resources to market.

PACE Outreach principal, Morgan Lommele, supported the Zone Identification and Technical Analysis Work Group and the Technical Committee of the Western Renewable Energy Zones process by advising on process design, defining ground rules (including purpose, roles and responsibilities), providing detailed meeting reports, and assisting in the development of work products to present to western state governors. Morgan also provided stakeholder outreach support and helped present a final report to western state governors in summer 2009.
